Welcome on my blog!

My name is Rebekka and on the next pages I will share my ongoing design journey with you:

First of all, I would like to introduce my personal and professional background in detail. Every single step is an important link in a long chain of experiences. They formed my personality and helped me to gain a great overview of theoretical knowledge and their practical applications.
I am a trained cabinet maker with over 7 years work experience, including my apprenticeship. I love working with my hands and be creative with a range of materials, especially wood. Additionally, I enjoy the technical side, such as drawing plans or choosing the ideal vanish for different surfaces. As a cabinet maker, I have worked for a university hospital, where I’ve had to quickly identify the root cause of a malfunction and quickly search for a solution in collaboration with the staff. This was the starting point for my interest of workplace design.
Together with my husband (which I have met during my time in New Zealand 😉 I decided to leave Germany for a few years in Bath and Dundee. There, I was able to accomplish my English language certificate and worked on my portfolio to apply for university. This was successful and I started a bachelor degree in Interior Environmental Design at DJCAD in Dundee. This course taught me all the tools to develop and communicate my ideas to a variation of audiences. However, it was not limited to physical design, but focused on research activities. During this process I discovered Service Design and Human Centred Design. I was able to implement these frameworks in my projects and sprints in order to develop new concepts to place the customer in the centre of the development process. Right in time after my successful graduation started a new master course “Design for Business” at the University of Dundee. I took the opportunity to learn more about design management, design leadership and design thinking and the principles of product design. I was even able to do an internship at the renowned HPI Academy in Potsdam. All my previous experiences are now combined in my current job as a project leader for innovation in a hospital. There, I embrace change of the workplace by empowering the nursing staff to be involved in the innovation process and the management to share responsibility and trust. The combination leads to an innovative culture change to a human centered work environment.

I will showcase my career from the beginning of my bachelor degree until now in this blog. I hope you enjoy the journey!
