My second Emotive object shows the fragile structure of the European Union as two semi-transparent halves. I realized that the EU seems to be transparent, but people cannot reproduce the process of decision making anymore. This can be seen especially since the Euro crisis started in 2008. In these difficult times people are not sure anymore, if their interest is taken seriously. As a result, large distances have been created between people of different nationalities and separatist groups are on the rise all around in Europe, with one of the largest in the UK.
My prototype shows 12 stars representing the European Union flag and 16 small once for the additional member states. They are arranged frigidly, which represents the situation of the EU at the moment. The two parliament buildings, the one from Brussels and the other one from Strasbourg represent the parliament and how they want to present them self: transparent. The European map between the stars and the buildings symbolizes the individual countries, the essence of the EU. At the moment the particular interest of the national countries have to stay behind European interests. This leads to dislike and protests in the home countries and to the rise of separatist groups.
I marked on the map, where separation movements have evolved in Europe. The golden sticks represent the money flow in the system. This stabilizes the system and shows the essential of solidarity to compare on international markets.
