Park(ing) day 2015_ Frame Dundee

The TeamCAD model

This year’s “Park(ing) Day”, was all about the people and changes in Dundee. Park(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. It was first launched in 2005 by the design group ”Rebar”, an art and design studio, based in San Francisco. They started the worldwide movement by converting a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown of San Francisco.
Our topic this year was the change over the years in Dundee with a special focus on the developing Waterfront.
Kengo Kuma , the architect of the V&A , described the building as a “Living Room for the City”. We took this phrase as our inspiration and designed our space in accordance to this idea. The recurrent question is: “Who will be the driving factor for change in the future?”
We came to the conclusion that it must be the people of Dundee, who must take the local development in their own hands. Therefore we wanted to give local people a platform to develop and improve the space around them and transform the city into living space, which is constantly evolving. Our aim was to focus on the people of Dundee.
